Comrades in Art: Artists Against Fascism

The most in-depth exhibition ever staged on the Artists International Association — the group of painters and printmakers who banded together in 1933 to oppose fascism and the Spanish Civil War. Eleven founding members, including Peggy Angus and Cliff Rowe, are shown alongside heavyweight supporters like Paul Nash, Dame Laura Knight and Lucien Pissarro.

It's a genuinely underexplored chapter of British art history, told through affordable lithographs and mural studies as much as gallery paintings — and Towner's seafront setting, with a pay-what-you-can day each month, makes it an easy, unstuffy visit.
