Once a year, Stockbridge's single wide high street closes to traffic and fills with trestle tables of smoked trout, farmhouse cheese, cider and hand-forged ironwork, while a blacksmith works metal a few feet from someone selling cloth bunting. It's the kind of quietly brilliant small-town event that never quite makes the national listings, which is part of the charm.

Go hungry, bring cash for the smaller stalls, and leave room to wander into the vineyard tent and festival field behind the shops — a proper Test Valley market town doing what it does best, one Sunday a year.
