Emma Richardson: Levitate Me — Desire, Ecstasy and The Sublime

This is the exhibition that reopened Southampton City Art Gallery after its refurbishment, and it's a proper statement piece — a new suite of oil paintings by Southampton-born artist Emma Richardson spanning the entire east wing, wrestling with transcendence, desire and the sublime. It's the kind of show that rewards slow looking rather than a quick lap.

Free, indoors, and an easy addition to a Southampton day out — pair it with a wander down to the old town or the docks. Its run ends 31 August, so this is close to last-chance viewing.
