A reconstructed Roman fort makes an unusually good stage for this: gladiator and warrior combat displays in the arena, a Living History Village you can actually walk through, and a Roman Marketplace of traders and craftspeople. New for 2026, there's a birds-of-prey display and an archery stand alongside the usual programme.
It's hands-on rather than roped-off — the kind of ancient-history day where older kids stay interested for hours rather than twenty minutes. Good one for a family day that isn't a theme park.
